XV Science Conference of Young Economists

September 2009

The knowledge & Innovation Institute is a co-organiser of the next conference from series of science Conferences of Young Economists. It will take place on the 21st-23rd of September 2009 at three Warsaw Universities which have the longest traditions in economic education: Warsaw School of Economics, Warsaw University and University of Life Science.

Knowledge and innovations protection

Under the honorary auspices of:

• The Polish Agency for Enterprise Development
• Polish Patent Office
• PKPP Lewiatan
  

The aim of this conference was to present and exchange views as well as committed studies on subject of knowledge and innovations as new factors of growth. As the result a four-level-analysis was made including: theoretical, macroeconomic, regional and microeconomic areas. Over 70 essays considering the above issues were delivered by around 150 participants.

Questions raised:

• Combining knowledge and innovations with their protection
• Protection of intellectual property
• Building knowledge-based society in Poland
• Reform of science in Poland

• Advantages (foreign direct investments) and drawbacks (brain drain) of Polish access to the European union

The aim of this conference was to present the role that knowledge and innovations play in the modern economy. It is essential to know how to identify the growth engines and benefit from them. Additionally, it cannot be forget about the barriers the economy has to face. To be aware of them and have idea how to omit this threat are the crucial factors for growth and development.
